If there’s a fighter who knows how to rebound from a loss, it’s UFC middleweight Rousimar Palhares.
Prior to his loss to Nathan Marquardt at UFC Fight Night 22, Palhares had come back and won multiple fights after his two previous career losses. At UFC on Versus 3 against Dave Branch, he will be looking to do it again.
“I am sure (I will be able to do it again),” Palhares told MMAWeekly.com. “I have been working hard to do it; training and improving my game and weaknesses. I am hungry to fight and I won’t repeat my mistakes, I have been learning from them.
“I feel that I am much more (experienced) than before, more confident and focused on my career.”
Considered by many to be one of the most talented products of the Brazilian Top Team in years, Palhares knows he cannot just rely on his jiu-jitsu prowess to stay a top contender at 185 pounds.
“I think I have to improve my whole game, try to learn the most I can, and develop my knowledge,” he said. “What I have to improve the most is my striking game, and it is what I am working hard to do.”
When asked if the change of opponent affected his training camp, Palhares replied, “I have the same routine; the only thing that changed is the strategy of the fight.
“I think it will be a good match-up for both us and for the fans. I am very excited to step into the Octagon again. It will be a great fight.”
After fighting only twice in 2010, Palhares intends on staying busy this year and hopes to one day fight in his native country. The Ultimate Fighting Championship is heading to Brazil in August for UFC Rio.
“(I want) to fight the most I can, especially if I have the chance to fight in Brazil; my country, where I live, where I have my friends and family,” commented Palhares. “It would be a dream (come true).”
Having gotten back up and succeeded after he has stumbled in the past, Palhares sees no reason why he cannot do so again, and continue his ascent in the UFC’s middleweight division.
“I would like to say thanks to my fans that have been supporting me all the time,” concluded Palhares. “I will do my best to make a great fight for them.”
