Sign-ups for the New York International Open carry on full blast. The IBJJF event set for April 16 promises great matches.

“Now the Pan’s done, I’m going to compete in New York. I’m going with the folks at GFTeam here to do another IBJJF tourney,” says Denílson Pimenta, who was runner-up in the lightweight division at the Pan in the masters category and closed out the absolute with his friend Theodoro Canal.

Claudio Calasans is getting ready to defend his two titles Abu Dhabi World Pro 2010 titles: the under 83 kg title and the absolute. The Atos black belt has already started out well, though: at the Jiu-Jitsu Pan he was one of the big names of the competition, submitting Lucas Leite in the middleweight division.

2nd Tampa Fusion seminar, with Robson Moura and Gustavo Dantas, coming up

Gustavo Dantas and Robson Moura will be teaching a Gi Seminar on Sunday, April 17 from 10 am to 1:00 pm at Martial arts Advantage, located at 3311 S. Dale Mabry, Tampa, Florida 33629. Everyone who pre-registers by April 11 will receive a free seminar T-Shirt. The seminar is open to everyone.

The seminar will cover specific techniques, tips, and exercises focused on strengthening and fine-tuning your competitive game. From working out of tough positions and situations to learning how to use the IBJJF rules in your favor, the 2nd Tampa FUSION Seminar will give you the tools you need to have an extra edge over your opponents.

In addition to the Fusion Seminar, Gustavo Dantas and Robson Moura will be conducting the 1st Mini Fusion Seminar & Pizza party, which will include Techniques, Games, and Prizes for Kids from 5 to 12 years old. Pizza party only for Kids and Staff.

The class will take place on Friday April 15thfrom 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Pizza party will follow. The 1st Mini Fusion is limited to 25 kids. On this event the points will be tallied separately from the main tournament. The points breakdown is as follows: First place- 9 points, Second place- 3 points, and Third place – 1 point. The event is for white belts only, MALE: ADULT, MASTER or SENIOR 1, and FEMALE: ADULT, and is intended to give budding competitors experience in the largest European tournament alongside many of the great athletes in sport jiu-jitsu. There is no open class.


The division is open for everyone above 18 years.

For male black belts, and female brown and black belt athletes to register in any event sanctioned by IBJJF it is required to have the ID membership valid for the current year. The valid ID number is required at the moment of the registration for those divisions.

The head coach of an academy’s competition team shall be granted the right to change a competitor’s registration information. Such changes are limited to: weight division, competitor’s name/nickname, academy affiliation and those member’s of the academy that will be competing in the open weight division.

Open Class Registration

Juvenile 1 and 2 male and female: blue belts

To sign up for juvenile open class male and female, just check the box during your online registration. Open class available for middle weight or above.

Adult, Master, Senior 1 male and Adult female: white belts
There is no open class.

Adult female: blue, purple and brown/black belts

To sign up for adult open class female, just check the box during your online registration.

Adult male: blue, purple and brown belts

Athletes who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their weight divisions are eligible to register for the Open Class bracket. The athletes willing to register in the open class should register at the event administration table after having his weight division medal awarded, according to the registration schedule . No registrations will be accepted after the registration closing time schedule.

Adult male: black belts

Black belts registered in the event are eligible to participate in the black belt open class division bracket.

The black belt athletes willing to participate in the open class division must apply their registration at the event administration table according to the event schedule.

No registrations will be accepted after the event registration closing time schedule.

Blue, purple, brown and black belts master and senior 1, 2 and 3:

Corrections by e-mail:
The athletes can send e-mail with changes on the registration, by sending an email to with the subject ‘PAN CORRECTION’. The deadline is March 19th – 5PM – California time.

Registration Check day:
The athletes must make sure that their information is correct by checking the website on the registration list for their weight, belt, academy, age division, and name information. If there are any mistakes on the information (ei. typing mistakes by IBJJF) please send an email to (March 21st, 5PM – California time).

The brackets will be released before the tournament . On wednesday, March 23rd, the brackets will be available online at our website.

After the registration check day, no changes will be made and no refunds will be given.

During the tournament, any mistakes on the brackets that were not correct previous to registration check day will lead to immediate disqualification .


Before his/her first fight, the athlete will check his/her weight with the Gi. There is only one opportunity to check the weight. If the competitor does not make his/her weight,they will be immediately disqualified. Please make sure that you are in the correct weight division. You can not change divisions ,if you do not make your designated division. No changes will be accepted in the tournament day, no refund.

All athletes should fight and weigh-in with tradicional weave fabric gi only (single, double or golden). All blue, all white or all black. No other kind of gi is allowed.

Depending on the number of athletes in the tournament, some classes may not have an absolute division.

THE FEDERATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CLOSE THE REGISTRATION when we reach full capacity, or Mar 16, wichever comes first.
Make sure to register early to save a spot.

Before each fight, athletes will be asked to show their Ids to the officials. Make sure you have it at hand.
